Delta Air Lines is under fire after a lawsuit claimed that a flight attendant slapped a passenger mid-flight. The incident reportedly occurred on 29 July 2025 during a flight from Atlanta to Fresno.
Passenger Alleges Physical Assault
Mohammad Shibli, the passenger, said he and his wife requested water for their two-year-old son but were denied as the beverage cart had not reached them. Another crew member later gave them water, but the original attendant allegedly reacted with hostility.
Shocking Behaviour by Crew
Shibli claims the attendant whispered vulgar words and then slapped him across the face in front of his wife and child. He did not respond physically and spent the remaining flight feeling embarrassed and traumatised.
Witness Accounts Back the Allegation
Other passengers reportedly heard the slap, even while wearing noise-cancelling headphones. On landing, law enforcement questioned the crew member involved. Delta has suspended the attendant and is conducting an internal inquiry.
Lawsuit Demands Millions in Damages
Shibli’s legal team is seeking $20 million in damages. They are also urging Delta to introduce mandatory Palestine sensitivity training, pointing to his wife’s shirt referencing Palestine as a possible trigger for the incident.
Larger Issues Raised About Airline Conduct
The lawsuit claims this is not an isolated case but a sign of deeper problems within Delta’s policies and training. The legal team accuses the airline of systemic failure to ensure staff accountability and passenger safety.
Airline’s Reputation at Risk
Delta Air Lines, known for customer care, now faces questions about its staff conduct. Passengers expect safety, not assault. For Shibli and his family, the emotional impact may last far beyond the flight.
