The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) audited 754 commercial aircraft between January 2025 and February 3, 2026. You should note that 377 aircraft showed recurring technical defects. This forms nearly half the fleet reviewed.

Airlines With Reported Defects

The aircraft with repeated defects belonged to several scheduled Indian airlines. IndiGo had 148 aircraft flagged during inspections. The Air India Group recorded the highest proportion of aircraft with recurring technical issues in audits.

Air India Group Numbers

Out of 166 Air India aircraft inspected, 137 showed repeated defects. Air India Express also reported similar concerns, with 54 of its 101 aircraft identified for persistent technical problems during the DGCA safety checks.

Smaller Carriers Under Watch

SpiceJet and Akasa Air also had aircraft flagged for recurring technical snags. You can see that the issue is not limited to one airline. The inspections covered both major carriers and smaller operators.

Scale of Safety Inspections

The DGCA conducted nearly 3,900 surveillance inspections and 56 regulatory audits. Hundreds of ramp inspections and spot checks were also completed. These steps show how closely the regulator is monitoring airline safety compliance.

Government Response

The government increased sanctioned technical posts within the DGCA to address manpower shortages. Many recurring defects relate to non critical cabin issues. You should see this as a reminder of the importance of strong maintenance oversight.
