The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a near-miss at Boston Logan International Airport involving Delta Air Lines Flight 263 and Cape Air Flight 548.
What Happened at Boston Logan
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when the Delta Airbus A330-900neo, flying from Paris to New York’s JFK Airport, was diverted to Boston because of bad weather. The aircraft had 284 passengers and 11 crew members on board.
Go-Around After Takeoff Clearance
As the Delta flight approached Logan around 4:15 p.m., air traffic control instructed its pilots to go around. At that moment, the Cape Air aircraft had already been cleared for takeoff from an intersecting runway.
Pilots’ Reactions During the Event
Delta’s pilots followed procedure and circled back to land safely. FAA officials confirmed that standard go-around protocols were properly executed. The agency is now examining how close the two planes came to each other.
Audio Reveals Tense Exchange
LiveATC.net captured the moment in real time. The Cape Air pilot was heard saying, “What the heck?” while the Delta pilot responded, “That was close.” Their reactions reflected the seriousness of the situation.
FAA’s Focus on Safety
Although the incident ended safely, it highlights how vital fully staffed and alert air traffic control teams are in maintaining aviation safety.
