A legal dispute has emerged involving KLM Royal Dutch Airlines after a family was denied boarding at Kempegowda International Airport. The family had booked business class tickets worth Rs 49 lakh. The incident has now drawn wider attention.
The issue dates back to June 19, 2024. It has now escalated after a Karnataka court directed police to register an FIR. The action is against senior executives of the airline. This development has intensified the legal dispute.
The complaint was filed by J S Sathishkumar from Salem. He is the chairman of a medical institution. He alleged that his family was stopped from boarding a flight to Peru. The reason cited was confusion over visa requirements.
Airline staff reportedly claimed that the family did not have a valid Peruvian visa. However, Sathishkumar disputed this claim. He stated that Indian passport holders with valid visas or residence permits from countries like the US, UK, or Schengen region can enter Peru without a separate visa.
The situation reportedly worsened after the incident. The family claimed they were red flagged in airline systems. This led to increased scrutiny during later travels to countries like Singapore and Australia.
Sathishkumar clarified that the case is about accountability. He said the issue goes beyond financial loss. It also involves the distress caused to his family during international travel.
KLM responded by stating that passengers are responsible for carrying valid travel documents. The airline said it follows international aviation rules strictly. It denied any wrongdoing in the matter.
The case highlights a grey area in airline responsibility. While rule compliance is important, clear communication is also necessary. Better staff training could help avoid such disputes.
