Flight operations were severely disrupted at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Saturday, leaving hundreds of travellers stranded. The large scale disruption created long queues and confusion across terminals. Both domestic and international passengers were affected.
A total of 61 flights were cancelled and 46 were delayed. The reasons included technical issues, adverse weather and logistical challenges. The combined impact led to significant inconvenience for flyers throughout the day.
Major carriers such as IndiGo, Emirates, Akasa Air, Air India and Saudia reported disruptions. IndiGo recorded the highest number of cancellations. Emirates and Gulf Air witnessed complete cancellations of their scheduled departures, while Air India reported multiple delays.
International routes to Dubai, London Heathrow, Amsterdam Schiphol, Athens, Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi were among the worst affected. The disruption hit both business and leisure travellers. Many passengers missed onward international connections.
Airport authorities and airline staff worked to manage rebookings and assist stranded passengers. Despite efforts to stabilise operations, the situation remained uncertain through the day. Long waiting hours added to traveller frustration.
With ongoing tensions in the Middle East, further disruptions cannot be ruled out. International flyers may face additional challenges in the coming days. Travellers are advised to check flight status regularly before heading to the airport.
