A Ryanair flight from Manchester to Agadir had to return shortly after take-off on 25 August 2025. A passenger allegedly tried to open an emergency exit mid-air, prompting an immediate response from the crew and authorities.
Emergency Mid-Flight Incident
Flight RK1266 took off from Manchester Airport at 9:20 a.m. Minutes later, fellow passengers noticed someone tampering with the emergency door.
The cabin crew quickly stepped in, moving the individual away from the exit. The captain stayed near the door to ensure safety until the situation was under control.
Aircraft Returns Safely to Manchester
The Boeing 737-800 turned around and landed back at Manchester Airport by 10:09 a.m. On arrival, Greater Manchester Police boarded the plane and arrested the suspect.
No further details about the person or possible charges have been shared by the authorities so far.
Aircraft Undergoes Immediate Inspection
Ryanair engineers carried out safety checks before allowing the aircraft to continue its journey. Witnesses said plastic covers around the emergency door were replaced during the inspection.
Ryanair later released a statement, warning that interfering with safety equipment is a serious offence.
Safety Systems and Cabin Pressure
Experts clarify that emergency exits cannot be opened mid-flight due to cabin pressure. However, any attempt to tamper with them requires urgent attention for the safety of everyone onboard.
Rising Concern Over Passenger Misconduct
Incidents involving disruptive passengers have increased globally. This event highlights the urgent need for stricter penalties and greater public awareness about flight safety rules.
