Southwest Bag Check Drama: Staff Bullying Flyers?

A Southwest Airlines passenger has described a troubling experience with gate attendants on a delayed Baltimore (BWI) to Boston (BOS) flight. The incident raised questions about how staff communicate baggage policies during delays.

Delays and Bag Check Requests

The flight was already delayed by more than an hour and was expected to land around 1:30 a.m. During the wait, attendants repeatedly asked passengers to check their carry-on bags because the flight was full.

Harsh Warnings from Gate Staff

Although passengers understood the need for voluntary checks, one flyer reported that attendants used a harsh and guilt-inducing tone. Announcements came every few minutes, adding stress to an already delayed journey.

Threats of Boarding Penalties

One attendant even warned that passengers refusing to check bags could lose their boarding position. They could also be forced to check their bags later, with delays then blamed on them.

Passengers Felt Uncomfortable

This behaviour made several travellers uneasy. Some, including the reporting passenger, chose to step away from the gate area until boarding began to avoid the repeated warnings.

Flight Landed Without Major Issues

Eventually, the flight landed safely in Boston. Boarding delays were not caused by baggage but by two missing passengers. Bags from Group C were checked as usual, with no serious disruptions.

Call for More Patience

The incident suggests that Southwest staff may be under pressure from new baggage rules. Still, passengers felt that a kinder and more patient approach would help reduce frustration during stressful delays.
