AI Crash Victim Fights in US: No Faith in India?

Hir Prajapati, who lost his mother Kalpana Ben Prajapati in the June 12 Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, has filed a lawsuit against Boeing in a US Federal Court. He is seeking a faster verdict than he believes would be possible in India.

Legal Action in the US

Prajapati is represented by US-based law firm Beasley Allen, which is also handling cases for at least 65 families from both India and the US. He said the families want early access to black box data to decide their next legal steps.

Need for a Speedy Verdict

“In India, trials get dragged for years. We are fighting the case in the US so that a decision is pronounced early. We believe we will get justice,” Prajapati told ANI. He also expressed gratitude to authorities, police, and doctors for their support after the crash.

Attorney’s Observations

Lead attorney Mike Andrews, currently in India, has met with families and visited the crash site. He said legal action against Boeing would depend on the investigation’s findings and cautioned against premature blame, noting that pilots are often accused when they cannot defend themselves.

Deadly Crash Details

The June 12 crash involved a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flying from Ahmedabad to London. It killed all 241 people on board and 19 on the ground. Families marked the two-month anniversary with a candlelight vigil in memory of the victims.
