Apple Busts Telugu Charity Fraud: Indians Fired

Apple has reportedly fired 185 employees over misuse of funds, with most of them having Indian origin. The group allegedly exploited the company’s policy using Telugu charity organizations in the US, betraying the community’s values.

The scheme revolved around Apple’s Matching Grants program, where the company matches employee donations to nonprofit organizations. Some Indian employees reportedly worked with Telugu charities to fake their donations and take the matched funds for themselves, while the original money was also returned to them.

Other fake charities were also involved as none of the six individuals named in the report are of Indian descent. However, the report claims these six alone have scammed $152,000 from Apple over three years.

This not only violates the company’s policy but also amounts to tax fraud as donations to charity are tax deductible. Moreover, it brings incredible shame to the Indian community as Telugu organizations are supposed to uplift the diaspora, not serve as tools for personal gain.

Apple hasn’t released any official statement regarding this scandal as they might be trying to save face but the damage is already done. People exploiting a company’s goodwill policies is shameful and puts mistrust over those who are genuinely contributing to the community.
