B1/B2 Rejection: Son’s Transfer Stops Parents Visa

In another odd US visa rejection, a simple question about the son’s university transfer led to the immediate rejection of the parents’ B1/B2 visa.

The parents from Hyderabad answered the visa officer’s question about their son’s transfer in great detail. He had transferred legally after getting an offer for a Graduate Research Assistantship at a different university. The offer was in line with his original MS course, and they even had the documentation to prove it.

But the visa officer wasn’t interested in the paperwork. Even after hearing the explanation, he asked the question about transfer again followed by the same answer from the parents.

And despite solid reasoning, they got rejected without any further questions. No documents were checked, leaving the parents and the son puzzled.

The Indian F-1 visa holder shared that this isn’t an isolated case either. A similar situation happened to his cousin’s parents at the Delhi consulate, with no Telugu translator to help them in the national capital.

This has left the Indian student wondering what’s the reason behind this swift rejection. Is over-explaining seen as suspicious now? Should parents tone down the details when answering questions about their children’s education?

The system seems to be broken. It’s frustrating, especially when all they did was answer truthfully. Even if they keep their answers brief, there is no guarantee that they won’t be rejected again. It is an uncertain time for anyone planning to travel to the US.
