44-Year-Old NRI’s Painful Death: Hospital Responsible?

A tragic incident in Edmonton has led to the death of Prashant Sreekumar, a 44-year-old Indian origin father of three. He reportedly waited more than eight hours at Grey Nuns Community Hospital despite severe chest pain and high blood pressure. His condition worsened during the wait and he later died from cardiac arrest.

Family alleges hospital negligence

His wife, Niharika Sreekumar, accused the hospital of negligence. She said that despite repeated alerts about his chest pain and rising blood pressure, he did not receive timely care. She believes proper medical intervention could have saved his life.

Pain and symptoms ignored for hours

Prashant was taken to the hospital around 12.20 pm on December 22. He remained in the triage area until nearly 9 pm, complaining of pain and high blood pressure that reached 210. According to the family, he was given Tylenol and told that chest pain was not an emergency.

ECG done but no urgent treatment

An ECG was performed, but the family was told nothing serious was detected. Prashant’s father said his son described the pain as 15 out of 10. He struggled to cope, yet the family was instructed to wait, even as the symptoms escalated.

Collapse inside emergency room

Prashant was taken inside the emergency room after more than eight hours. He collapsed and lost consciousness within moments. Nurses attempted to revive him, but he died from a suspected cardiac arrest. He leaves behind his wife and three young children.

Hospital response and investigation

Covenant Health, which runs the hospital, said the case is under review and shared condolences. It has not commented on treatment details. The incident has prompted grief and anger in the community, with calls for an investigation into emergency room response times and patient care standards.
