CM Vijay permits six daily film shows
Since the arrival of the Jayalalithaa’s government in the early 2010, Tamil Nadu had been largely restrictive when it comes to the film industry. Several permissions, including the additional shows were rejected by the government authorities frequently.
But things have changed remarkably since the arrival of the Vijay government, as they have introduced the prospect of additional shows in Tamil Nadu again.
According to the latest developments, the Vijay-led Tamil Nadu Government issued a new order permitting all single-screen and multiplex theatres to operate from 6:00 AM to 2:30 AM for the first 7 days of every new film release.
This is a pretty positive update to the Tamil film makers as these additional shows will generate significantly higher revenues. This is going to be particularly beneficial for big films featuring big stars.
It appears that Tamil cinema is benefitting from the fact that one of their own has become the chief minister of the state and is running the government. There is no better man to understand the dynamics and financials of the film industry and Vijay himself, and he appears to be putting this to good use after becoming the CM.
To put that into perspective, the government of Andhra Pradesh, which also has the representation of Pawan Kalyan has been subjective of this.
The permissions for additional shows and elevated ticket prices is issued based on the merit of the film rather than generalised prospect. But Vijay appears to have decided to be very generous with his approach.
