DUI Arrest Threatens H1B Visa Stamping

A shocking story emerges about how an H1B applicant’s routine visa stamping turned into a nightmare.

It originally started with a DUI arrest back in 2021. Although the applicant had fulfilled all legal requirements for it, including imprisonment for a specific period, fines, and driving restrictions, this is very past offense became the reason for a big setback when the applicant applied for visa stamping in 2024.

Everything was going right with the visa interview at the Hyderabad consulate until the arrest details flashed on the DS-160 form.

A brief explanation later, the visa officer asked for the court documents and produced the dreaded yellow sip – 221G. The applicant therefore needed to go through a full medical test, which was emotionally distressing.

“After much delay, it finally got approved after weeks, and I got my passport stamped. But it was a long and uncertain road,” he stated. The case essentially points out how some of the past offenses that were considered resolved at their times, such as for DUI, come around at crucial instances of one’s life and do the damage vis-a-vis visa outcomes.

It is also important for people who find themselves in similar situations to be truthful and follow all the procedures. The process is tough, but it shows where hard work and following all legal procedures sometimes pay off.
