Debbie Stevens, a 47-year-old woman from Long Island, finds herself at the center of a controversy, claiming she was unfairly dismissed from her position at Atlantic Automotive Group after selflessly donating a kidney to her boss, Jackie Brucia.

The saga began in 2009 when Stevens was hired as an assistant by Brucia. In a remarkable display of altruism, Stevens decided to donate her kidney to a stranger, aiming to facilitate Brucia’s ascent on the organ donor list.

Despite not being the ideal match, Stevens underwent surgery in August 2011, showcasing an extraordinary commitment to her colleague’s well-being. However, the post-surgery phase took an unexpected turn for Stevens upon her return to work.

Stevens alleges mistreatment, including instances of screaming, demotion, and an enforced relocation to a dealership far from her home. The stark contrast between her pre-donation professional life and the hostile environment she encountered post-surgery prompted Stevens to take action.

Feeling mistreated and undervalued, Stevens filed a complaint with the New York State Human Rights Commission, claiming that she was fired “after the woman got what she wanted.” The allegations suggest a disturbing sequence of events wherein a selfless act of organ donation turned into a nightmarish professional ordeal for Stevens.

To cope with the escalating situation, Stevens sought the guidance of a psychiatrist. In a bid to address the perceived injustice, her legal representatives sent a letter to Atlantic Automotive Group outlining their concerns. However, instead of finding resolution or reconciliation, Stevens found herself terminated within a week of her attorneys’ intervention.
