F-1 Visa Approval Stuck: Passport Held, No Updates

An Indian student left an F 1 visa interview at the New Delhi Consulate with uncertainty about his future. His application has been under administrative processing since March 26. The delay has raised concerns about his academic plans.

According to the applicant, the visa officer asked only a few questions about funding. He was then issued a 221 g slip, indicating further checks were required. Since then, his passport has remained with the consulate.

No additional documents were requested during the interview. This has made the student wonder if a decision was already leaning negative. The lack of clarity has increased his anxiety.

His status on the Consular Electronic Application Center shows Refused. For many applicants, this appears like a rejection. However, in 221 g cases, it often means the application is under review.

Administrative processing is usually applied in specific situations. Recently, it has become more common after stricter checks, including social media screening. These changes have affected many applicants.

The biggest issue is the lack of transparency in the process. Applicants are not informed about what is being verified. They are also not given clear timelines for updates.

This uncertainty affects travel plans and university schedules. Admission deadlines and reporting dates remain at risk. Each passing day increases pressure on the student.

Many applicants expect clarity after attending interviews. However, decisions are becoming less predictable. This case reflects the challenges faced during F 1 visa processing today.
