Green Card Panic: Completed Interview Got Cancelled

A routine green card case has suddenly triggered panic after an unexpected online update. The confusion reflects how unpredictable the US immigration system has become, even for legal applicants who follow every rule and submit every document on time.

A Reddit user shared that the marriage-based green card interview was completed in May 2024 without any issues. Everything appeared fine. After that, the case remained under review for six months, which is now common under the stricter oversight at USCIS.

On December 2, the case status abruptly changed to “Interview Cancelled or Rescheduled”. This shocked the couple because the interview had already taken place months earlier. There was no notice, no email, and no explanation, only a cold system update with no clarity.

The immigration lawyer said such alerts are often caused by internal system errors or file movements. Sometimes this even signals that a decision is near. At the same time, other green card holders warned that it can also mean more documents or another interview.

What added real fear is the recent rise in arrests during green card interviews. One wrong step can now have serious consequences. While the update may be a glitch, the wider climate leaves no room for comfort or patience.
