H-1B Hiring Bias: US Firms Still Favoring Indians

Amid concerns over restrictions on immigrant workers, some US companies are openly hiring H-1B visa holders and shutting out American workers. However, it might bring more trouble than relief for Indian employees.

Some social media users shared job descriptions posted by companies that clearly stated, “Locals need not apply.” People called out this bias and claimed that Indian hiring managers specifically favored their fellow countrymen over Americans.

This has sparked an online outrage with netizens calling it discriminatory and a misuse of the H-1B program. Critics claim it was meant to fill gaps and not replace local workers.

However, no real evidence was found that Indians preferred other Indian employees for the jobs. Another reason these companies asked specifically for H-1B workers is that they are paid less and offer a better skill set.

People are unfairly targeting Indians just because they are the biggest recipients of the H-1B visas. Now the Department of Justice (DOJ) has taken note and will investigate the matter further.

Many Indian families in the US are now facing an uncertain future. Therefore, companies might take advantage of desperate immigrants and exploit them for cheap labor.

With immigration rules getting tougher, H-1B holders could be in for a shock. The days of easy access to US jobs may be numbered.
