H-1B Picked But No Job: US Dreams Shattered

One can never rest assured in the current political climate in the United States. An immigrant worker who got picked in the H-1B lottery this year has suddenly found himself scrambling for survival.

The H-1B aspirant recently shared his success after three long years of struggle. Since his EAD (Employment Authorization Document) expired in March, he applied for Day 1 CPT (Curricular Practical Training) to see him through October 1st, when his company will officially file for a work visa.

However, just when things seemed to be going right, the startup he was working for laid him off in mass firings. Now, he has less than 5 months to find a new sponsor since transfer is no longer possible if he is not on the payroll.

While there is still time for him to find a new job, it is just another headache surmounting on top of H-1B workers who live uncertain of their future in the wake of the current immigration crackdown.

Many immigrant students and professionals have reported getting laid off and rejected, just because companies are afraid of what the future of the US looks like. Trump has thrown everything into an array, and this seems to be just the beginning.
