An H-1B worker was shocked to see their corrected I-94 details suddenly revert to an older date without any warning. The I-94, which stores an H-1B visa holder’s admission details on the CBP website, showed the previous expiry date again.
Passport Expiry Triggered the Initial Error
The issue began when the I-94 was shortened due to a passport expiring soon, a common problem faced by many Indians arriving at US airports. The worker followed procedure and contacted CBP Deferred Inspection. The record was manually corrected, and the updated “Admit Until” date appeared online for weeks.
USCIS Approval Creates New Confusion
Trouble started after a fresh I-797A approval by USCIS. The online I-94 unexpectedly reverted to the incorrect date based on the last entry into the US. The corrected record was gone, leaving the worker confused and stressed.
Data Sync Issues Between CBP and USCIS
This error may be caused by miscommunication between CBP and USCIS systems. CBP controls the I-94, while USCIS maintains the I-797A on a completely different backend. When both systems are not synced, manual corrections may be overwritten during automated updates.
Lack of Transparency Adds Pressure
H-1B workers already face many legal and documentation hurdles. Tracking backend issues should not be another burden. The lack of clarity from authorities and sudden data rollbacks make the situation more frustrating.
