H-1B Workers Face Job Security Concerns
An Indian Vice President of software engineering took to Reddit about a dilemma they face. They have been asked to nominate four employees for layoffs, all of whom are Indian H-1B holders.
They added that the roles are entry to medium level with modest salaries. Which means that the layoffs are not to save money.
The VP also says that they know that eventually they will also be on the chopping block.
This situation highlights the immense anxiety being faced by H-1B holders right now. Due to intense immigration crackdowns, US companies are choosing to lay off H-1B workers, rather than deal with any complications.
This doesn’t just affect lower level roles, as highlighted by the VP’s own anxieties. Even senior level management roles are not guaranteed safety anymore.
Comments on the post have shed more light on the H-1B job market in the US. One user claims that H-1B, OPT, and CPT resumes are filtered at the very beginning of the recruitment stage.
The post raises serious doubts about the viability of an H-1B visa in the future. With visas nearly impossible to get and jobs uncertain, Indians hoping for a good life in the US are left in the lurch.
