H1B Lottery vs. Indian Loans: Students’ Horror in US

For thousands of Indian students, a US master’s degree was supposed to open doors for a brighter future. However, it has now turned into a horrific financial situation.

An Indian graduate shared their ordeal of having no job, massive debt, and the fear of returning to India with loans they can’t repay. They are caught in a dilemma, whether to keep pursuing their dreams or just give up and return home.

The H1B visa lottery this year seems unlikely as the deadline of March 24 is just around the corner. OPT gives a brief lifeline, but without an employer guaranteeing a sponsorship, it doesn’t offer much assurance.

Many companies in the US are currently hesitant to hire international students, making job hunting a brutal experience. Other options like pursuing a second Master’s would trap the students in more debt with no way out of it.

This isn’t just personal misfortune, it is a warning sign for things to come. Over 300,000 Indian students currently studying in the US could face even worse situations by the time they get out of college.

More members of the community will be forced to return to India as Trump and co don’t seem to back down from their restrictions. The situation is a mess as Indian students are struggling to just survive in an alien country.
