An H-1B visa interview has triggered fresh anxiety after a US consulate asked an applicant to submit social media details twice. The applicant had already shared the information during the interview but received another request soon after, raising concerns.
The follow-up email arrived just two days after the interview. It left the applicant confused. Even after resubmitting all details quickly, the visa status continued to show “refused,” which usually means the application is still under processing.
Under updated US visa rules, H-1B and F-1 applicants must disclose their online presence for additional screening. However, repeated checks after interviews have surprised many. Missing even a single email can create serious complications for applicants.
Several social media users have reacted strongly to this process. Many describe it as excessive scrutiny of personal digital activity. Some even questioned why platforms like Reddit are included, given their anonymous nature and limited personal identification.
Despite sharing all required details, some applicants still face refusals without clear reasons. This has increased stress levels among candidates. Many are now rethinking their past online activity while dealing with an already heavy visa backlog in India.
The growing scrutiny has added another layer of uncertainty for visa applicants. With delays already common, these additional checks are making the process more complex and unpredictable for those waiting for approvals.
