US Senator Attacks Hyd ‘Visa Temple’ as H1B Cartel

Eric Schmitt, a Republican Senator from the United States, has sparked controversy with his criticism of the H-1B visa system. In a detailed post on X, he directly referred to “Visa Temples” in Hyderabad while discussing what he described as a “visa cartel” operating from India.

Schmitt claimed that several major American companies replaced local employees while continuing to hire foreign workers. According to his statements, nearly 82 percent of those workers were allegedly paid below median wage levels. He argued that the current system benefits outsourcing and negatively impacts American technology professionals.

The biggest reaction came after Schmitt mentioned Chilkur Balaji Temple, popularly known as the “Visa Temple.” He used the temple as an example while discussing what he called a manipulated immigration pipeline into the United States. His remarks quickly triggered strong responses online.

Several Indian-Americans and social media users criticised the comments as an unnecessary attack on Indian traditions and culture. Many users defended the temple’s significance, saying students and professionals simply visit the temple seeking blessings and good luck before visa interviews.

Schmitt also made allegations regarding misuse of L-1 visa transfers, fake office setups, and resume fraud. He claimed that a global “visa cartel” was exploiting loopholes to enter the United States through fraudulent methods. The senator further referred to shell companies and statements from former employees to support his argument.

According to Schmitt, some American workers allegedly lost jobs because of outsourcing networks connected to Indian hiring systems in the technology sector. His comments have now added further intensity to the ongoing H-1B visa debate in the United States.

As discussions around H-1B visas continue to grow, concerns regarding fraud and misuse are also receiving greater attention. However, many observers believe action against fraudulent activities should not negatively affect genuine visa holders and skilled professionals working legally in the US.
