The global holiday destination is ablaze, and people are seeking various ways to escape the calamity. The US Coast Guard reports rescuing 12 individuals who leapt into the ocean to evade the fire.

A wildfire is raging through Hawaii uncontrollably, further stoked by a 110kmph hurricane causing additional damage, including house destruction and power outages. This catastrophe has impacted over 15,000 people and consumed thousands of acres.

The citizens who took refuge in the water were retrieved off the coast of Lahaina on Maui. They were transported to “safe areas” by a 45-foot rapid response vessel belonging to the US Coast Guard (USCG).

Social media is now inundated with videos of these disastrous events. On Maui, Lahaina finds itself surrounded by three wildfires, exacerbating the crisis. Due to the fire’s unpredictable nature, officials are currently focused on evacuations.

Even amid the evacuation efforts, the wind is hampering helicopter operations, and the death toll is rising with each passing moment. Presently, 36 individuals have lost their lives, and this number could surge due to the disaster’s unpredictability.
