Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, a 33-year-old internal medicine practitioner residing in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was taken into custody following accusations of engaging in inappropriate conduct in front of a 14-year-old girl during a Hawaiian Airlines flight.
The unsettling incident unfolded on May 27, 2022, as the flight journeyed from Honolulu to Boston. The young girl recounted that around five hours into the flight, Mohanty concealed himself with a blanket, later revealing his unzipped pants and exposed genitals.
The minor, understandably distressed, promptly relocated to another seat and reported the incident to her family upon landing.
The swift response from law enforcement led to Mohanty’s arrest, highlighting the gravity with which such offenses are treated. Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy emphasized the right of all passengers, particularly children, to a safe and respectful travel environment.
FBI’s Acting Special Agent in Charge, Christopher Dizenna, reiterated the seriousness of crimes committed on aircraft, underlining the agency’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety.
As legal proceedings continue, this incident underscores the importance of vigilance and immediate action against any form of inappropriate behavior, particularly when involving minors.
