Indian Family’s Expensive Jewelry Stolen in CA

Partha Thirumalai, a Fremont resident of Indian origin, had his family’s valuable jewelry stolen in a car break-in after being followed from a bank.

On August 23, Partha withdrew two bags of jewelry, including sentimental pieces passed down from ancestors, from his safety deposit box at a Chase Bank on Mowry Avenue.

Unaware that a group of burglars in an SUV was watching him, he drove to the Irvington post office to drop off packages.

When he returned to his Honda Odyssey, he found a shattered window and the jewelry gone. Fremont police, California, using surveillance footage, tracked the suspects’ vehicle, a Dodge Journey, and later that day, California Highway Patrol officers recovered the stolen jewelry in Merced County.

Two suspects, Guadalupe Delcristo Martinez and Carolina Medina Cortes, have been charged with grand theft.

Partha expressed both frustration and gratitude, acknowledging in hindsight that he could have withdrawn less jewelry but is relieved the theft didn’t occur at his home.

Despite the emotional loss, he remains thankful the police recovered the stolen items.
