In a major breakthrough against transnational crime, U.S. authorities in California have arrested Pavittar Singh Batala — an Indian national long wanted for his alleged involvement in terror-linked criminal activities.
Pavittar Singh Batala is reportedly associated with the banned Khalistani group, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
The arrest took place during a large-scale operation led by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s AGNET (Auto and Gang Nexus Enforcement Team) Unit.
The crackdown was coordinated with the FBI SWAT team and multiple local law enforcement agencies. It was part of the FBI’s ongoing “Summer Heat” initiative, which targets gang violence and illegal weapons trafficking across American cities.
Pavittar Singh Batala was not acting alone. He was apprehended along with seven other individuals during simultaneous raids in Stockton and neighboring areas.
The group now faces a range of serious charges — including kidnapping, torture, conspiracy, and firearms offenses.
Authorities recovered a cache of illegal weapons, including a fully automatic Glock handgun, an assault rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and over $15,000 in cash.
Indian security agencies have been closely tracking Pavittar Singh Batala’s activities.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently named him in a chargesheet, accusing him of playing a key role in spreading pro-Khalistan propaganda.
He allegedly used encrypted messaging apps and virtual phone numbers to coordinate extremist activities while based abroad.
Investigators believe he has ties to handlers in Pakistan and may be involved in facilitating arms supply routes to gangs operating in Punjab.
Pavittar Singh Batala’s arrest is being seen as a significant win not just for U.S. law enforcement but also for Indian counterterrorism efforts.
Interpol had previously issued a Red Corner Notice against him. With his capture, pressure is now mounting on Indian authorities to formally request his extradition.
If successful, this could offer a rare opportunity to dismantle a part of the global Khalistani terror network operating from overseas.
