SEVIS Terminated: Past Mistakes Haunt F1 Students

The troubled past of some F-1 students is coming back to haunt them, and many could face deportation soon. The US government has reportedly begun auditing records of immigrant students and is terminating SEVIS for anyone with a criminal history, including DUI.

Multiple F-1 students on social media have reported having their SEVIS terminated recently. Even offenses dating back to 2019 are now being penalized.

Previously, a DUI would only result in visa revocation, but students could still stay in the US if their SEVIS status remained valid. However, the Trump administration has scrapped that privilege, ensuring that any stain on a student’s record can now be used against them.

One student claimed that even Designated School Officials (DSOs) and immigration lawyers are confused by this new enforcement. “This is new to them, and I’m guessing a new rule is terminating SEVIS for students with past visa revocations,” the student wrote on social media.

Many are now being punished again for old mistakes, even after staying clean for years. Sadly, at this point, there seems to be little they can do, no matter how much time has passed, their past records are being used against them.
