US Company Shake-Up, HR Change Ends H-1B Dream

An international worker with an approved H-1B visa saw their plans collapse after a sudden company shake-up. You expect stability once sponsorship is confirmed. Instead, internal changes turned a secure future into uncertainty almost overnight.

From OPT to H-1B Approval

You completed a Master’s in Marketing and worked on Optional Practical Training. In July 2024, you secured a Sales Enablement Coordinator role. When the employer agreed to sponsor your visa, selection in the April 2025 H-1B lottery followed.

USCIS Approval Brings Relief

By June, US Citizenship and Immigration Services approved the petition. You received the I-797 notice, with the H-1B start date set for November. Everything pointed towards a smooth transition into long-term employment in the US.

HR Exit and Company Reshuffle

Before the H-1B start date, the company went through major internal changes. The HR handling your case quit, and management shifted. These changes happened quickly, leaving you without clarity or consistent communication.

Role Changed After Layoffs

In July, mass layoffs hit the company. Your role was abruptly changed to Marketing Coordinator in a single day. There was no transition plan, no clear job description, and no formal explanation for the shift.

Amendment Issue Raised Late

You continued working under the new role. In late November, HR informed you that the role change might require an H-1B amendment with USCIS. This raised concerns about compliance and approval risks.

Sponsorship Suddenly Withdrawn

Weeks later, the company withdrew H-1B sponsorship completely. Management said the revised role was too general and risky under the current administration. The assurance of a future in the US disappeared instantly.

Facing the 60-Day Deadline

You now have 60 days to find another employer willing to transfer your H-1B. With the holidays and a tough job market, options feel limited. What once looked like a stable American Dream now feels out of reach.
