Ramayana and Godzilla Minus Zero are heading towards a November showdown, but the real battle may not be at the box office. It could be over the limited number of IMAX screens in India.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana is scheduled to release on November 5, while Godzilla Minus Zero was lined up for November 6. Both films are designed for the big-screen experience, making IMAX availability a key part of their theatrical plans.
However, the latest reports suggest that Godzilla Minus Zero could be postponed in India because of the shortage of IMAX screens. The film is the follow-up to Godzilla Minus One and is particularly suited to the premium format, making a limited number of shows a potential concern for its Indian release. Neither a postponement nor a revised date has been officially confirmed yet.
If the release is pushed, Ramayana could have a clearer run at the available IMAX screens during its opening days. That would give exhibitors more flexibility to schedule shows for the Indian epic without dividing the premium-format audience between two major visual spectacles.
But more IMAX screens alone do not guarantee a bigger box-office result. Audience response, bookings and the final screen allocation will also matter.
For now, Ramayana may have an advantage in the IMAX race, but the final picture depends on whether Godzilla Minus Zero actually changes its Indian release date.
