US Immigration Crisis: Indian Students Backing Out

Witnessing the uncertainty over immigration in the US, many Indian Students have realized that the American Dream is not worth chasing after.

According to a new media survey, Indian Students are changing their study plans of settling abroad. Even those with I-20 forms and visa appointments are backing out, fearing stricter rules and an uncertain future.

Indian students in the US have rapidly grown in the last few years to over 3.3 lakhs in 2024. However, this surge might see some dip in the future with new policies by the Trump government.

A 22-year-old from Hyderabad who dropped his plans for a master’s in data analytics shared his thoughts with the media, “The opportunities are shrinking, and the environment feels unwelcoming. Even if I get a visa, staying and working there is unpredictable.”

Not just the US but even the alternatives are losing their shine among Indian youth. “Canada’s economy is unstable, the UK isn’t much better, and I don’t want to gamble lakhs on an uncertain future,” said a BTech graduate from Nagpur.

While universities claim enrollments are steady for now, the future looks shaky. Experts admit this isn’t the best time for international students, and Indian aspirants are forced to seek new avenues.
