The Delhi High Court has raised concerns over alleged bias in Aryan Khan’s debut series The Ba**ds of Bollywood. The issue came up during a defamation case filed by former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede. The controversy grew after viewers noted that a character in the show closely resembled him.
Sameer Wankhede is the same officer who led the high-profile 2021 drug case involving Aryan Khan. He argued that the portrayal in the series mocked him and damaged his reputation. He also said it led to online trolling and threats to his family.
Senior Advocate Kaul, representing Red Chillies Entertainment, defended the show as satire. He said creators can take inspiration from real-life personalities. He even compared the series’ approach to the work of noted cartoonist R. K. Laxman.
The court disagreed with that comparison. It said Laxman’s work did not display the kind of bias that Wankhede alleged in this series. Wankhede’s counsel, J. Sai Deepak, argued that the disputed scene had no narrative purpose.
According to Deepak, the scene only harmed Wankhede’s reputation and put him under public trial. He stated that removing it would not affect the makers but would prevent further damage. The argument added pressure to the ongoing case.
The court also asked questions about other investigations involving Wankhede. The matter is still under judicial consideration. No final order has been issued so far.
Both Aryan Khan and Sameer Wankhede have faced controversies in the past. Whether Wankhede was right to approach the court remains a point of debate. Public reactions continue to be divided.
