Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19 has landed in legal trouble after allegedly playing Bollywood songs without proper licensing. The Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) has sent a notice to the show’s makers, accusing them of copyright violations.
The issue stems from episode 11, aired on September 3, 2025, where the songs Chikni Chameli from Agneepath (2012) and Dhat Teri Ki from Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013) were featured. PPL claims Endemol Shine India, the production company, used these tracks without the mandatory public performance license.
The notice, filed on September 19, also names directors Thomas Gousset, Nicolas Chazarain, and Deepak Dhar as responsible parties. Both songs are licensed to Sony Music Entertainment India, but PPL alleges no license was obtained under Section 30 of the Copyright Act, 1957.
PPL has demanded damages of Rs 2 crore, along with the necessary licensing fees. While Bigg Boss 19 continues to dominate viewership, the legal battle now raises serious questions about compliance with copyright law in Indian television.
