“Choona” on Netflix: Jimmy Shergill’s Money Heist

“Choona,” a new web series by Netflix, just dropped today. It is an 8-episode heist drama with a pinch of political satire.

The series stars Jimmy Shergill, Ashim Gulati, and Namit Das in lead roles and tells the story of a powerful political leader, Avinash, played by Jimmy, who is waiting for his 800 crores of black money to be delivered. Meanwhile, Ashim Gulati and his gang are planning to take that money before it reaches him as their personal vengeance. Since the party office is high on security, Avinash has only one weakness: astrology. He has too much faith in star signs and omens, which will be the basis of Ashim’s plan.

This eight-episode series has its ups and downs. On one hand, the series is funny, but there are times when it can be considered a bit stretched. There are too many characters with a lot of potential, but the plot is not rich enough to hold them together. Avinash is a character who is not very different from the characters Jimmy has played in other films – a tough guy who fails to take control of everything he wants, as we have seen in “Tanu Weds Manu” and “Happy Bhag Jayegi.”

If you are looking for a fun ride with not too many expectations, this can be a good choice for the weekend. “Choona,” directed by Pushpendra Nath Mishra, was released on Netflix.
