Jailer 2 OTT release sparks fan concerns
One of the biggest blockbusters of recent times in Indian cinema happened to be Rajinikanth’s latest film Jailer 2. The film is a perfect commercial package for a senior star Rajinikanth who has to make do with aura and screen presence rather than physical attributes.
Coming to the topic now, this historic blockbuster, which is the highest grossing Tamil film of all time with ₹850 crore gross U.S. prepping for OTT debut now.
It has been confirmed by Amazon prime that this film would be studying on their platform from November 12, which is exactly 4 weeks from the day of the theatrical release.
However, it turns out to be that fans and cinema enthusiast in general or not very pleased with the early OTT debut for this film. They are commenting that the producers are killing the theatrical prospect by orchestrating the OTT release just four weeks after the release.
Their verdict is that the film would have had an elongated run in theatres if the OTT debut was delayed briefly.
However, the market terms are completely different as the producer will have to safeguard the film before the release by selling the OTT rights for a significant amount compared to the production budget. This can be possible only if the four week OTT release can be arranged.
While fans might have different opinions on this matter, the actual stakeholders and producers will have a completely different outlook. At the end of the day, it is going to be a business decision that will reign supreme and that clearly warrants a 4 week OTT release or something even earlier.
