The Anubhav Sinha-directed series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has already faced backlash for altering historical facts, and now it’s caught in another controversy.
ANI (Asian News International) has taken legal action against Netflix and the producers of the series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, accusing them of using its video content without permission.
The clips in question include footage of key figures like former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pakistan’s General Pervez Musharraf, and terrorist Masood Azhar.
ANI claims the series features its footage without proper consent and even displays its logo, which they argue infringes on their copyright and trademark.
The agency is upset about the portrayal of Pakistan in a seemingly favorable light concerning the hijacking and doesn’t want to be linked to what they describe as an “anti-national” narrative.
The news agency has requested that the court either remove the episodes using its material or ensure that its logo is blurred.
On the other hand, the show’s producers refute these claims, asserting that the footage was legally acquired from third parties for a significant amount.
The Delhi High Court has ordered Netflix and the producers to respond to ANI’s demands, and the matter will continue in court in the coming days.
