The OTT platform has expanded its reach amongst the masses like never before. The recent top charts of OTT released films have shocked netizens.
Many pointed out that the trends do not align with people’s critical appreciation. Many films gambled in the OTT release front and performed well but others not so much.
The top contender with 15.1 million viewership was Netflix’s release Do Patti. The Kriti Sanon starrer had the star appeal of Kajol and TV lover’s favourite Shaheer Sheikh.
Whereas Chamkila released at the same platform despite critical acclaim didn’t even make it to the top 5. It had a viewership of 12.4 million, with fans appreciating Imtiaz Ali’s direction and Diljeet and Parineeti’s performance.
It was commented that star power has made even an outlandish film like Do Patti the winner of this race. In the end Netflix seemed to clearly sway the game, as 11 out of 15 of the most watched films were backed by them.
Films like Sector 36, Sikandar Ka Muqaddar, Murder Mubarak, and Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba were amongst the top performers. OTT is emerging as a leading front and clearly proving its immense potential.
