Netflix’s $3 Billion Gamble: What Could Go Wrong?

Netflix is preparing to introduce a TikTok-style vertical video feed inside its mobile app by the end of April 2026. The new feature signals a notable shift in how the streaming platform plans to engage users.

Netflix has traditionally been known for long-form entertainment such as movies and web series. With this update, the company is moving towards shorter and faster content formats popular among mobile users.

Reports suggest the feature has been under testing since last year. It is expected to allow users to scroll through short clips, trailers and video podcasts within the app.

The experience is said to be similar to platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels. This reflects the growing demand for quick and engaging mobile content.

The move also matches changing viewer habits, as many users now prefer watching content on smartphones. Short video formats continue to attract younger and highly active audiences.

Netflix is also increasing its focus on artificial intelligence. Co-CEO Gregory Peters said newer AI models could greatly improve recommendation systems for users.

Meanwhile, Ted Sarandos highlighted AI’s role in helping creators with better production tools. The company appears keen to use technology across multiple business areas.

Netflix’s recent acquisition of InterPositive is also expected to strengthen its GenAI capabilities. The company is reportedly investing heavily in future-ready systems.

AI may also be used to improve advertising performance. Reports claim Netflix is targeting $3 billion in ad revenue this year through smarter ad strategies.

Financially, Netflix posted strong Q1 2026 numbers with revenue of $12.25 billion. Profits reportedly jumped 83 percent to $5.28 billion, showing continued growth.

With around 325 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is clearly evolving to remain competitive. The latest changes indicate the platform wants to lead both streaming and digital innovation.
