Manav Kaul’s supernatural thriller Baramulla is now streaming on Netflix, and early responses have been mixed. Viewers feel the film has an intriguing premise but lacks the emotional depth and realism that its story demands.
The film attempts to merge Kashmir’s history with supernatural horror. It follows Rizwan (Manav Kaul), a Muslim police officer who moves to Baramulla with his wife Gulnar (Bhasha Sumbli) and their two young children, a son and a daughter.
Soon after their arrival, strange events begin to unfold. The boy claims to see a ghost, while the daughter notices a mysterious smell. At the same time, the town faces a disturbing rise in child kidnappings, with missing children reportedly turning into militants.
Many viewers appreciated the sharp writing and tense atmosphere that keeps the story gripping. However, some felt the film’s pacing falters when subplots take too long to connect, making certain parts of the narrative feel sluggish.
Manav Kaul has received strong praise for his performance as a dedicated police officer and conflicted father. He portrays both vulnerability and authority with precision, giving the film its emotional core and dramatic strength.
Despite its uneven storytelling and few flaws, Baramulla still offers a solid watch for fans of supernatural horror. It stands out for its performances and its attempt to blend real-world conflict with paranormal fear.
