
Netflix has announced a major new strategic partnership with Japanese animation studio MAPPA. The deal focuses on co-producing and globally distributing anime projects, strengthening a collaboration that began in 2020.
Under the expanded agreement, both companies will work together across the full production cycle. This includes story development, production, distribution, and merchandising, with a strong focus on global audiences.
MAPPA is regarded as one of the most influential anime studios today. It is known for global hits such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, Dororo, Zombie Land Saga, and the latter half of Attack on Titan.
The studio has earned international acclaim for its bold creative choices and striking visuals. This reputation has helped drive strong demand for its content across markets worldwide.
As part of the partnership, Netflix will become the exclusive global streaming home for several upcoming MAPPA titles. These projects will be available in over 190 countries, although specific titles and release dates are yet to be announced.
Both companies said the goal is to deliver fresh storytelling and new viewing experiences. They aim to combine MAPPA’s creative strength with Netflix’s extensive global reach.
MAPPA president Manabu Otsuka highlighted the importance of maintaining creative and commercial independence as the studio expands internationally. Netflix executives echoed this sentiment, noting the potential to take anime beyond traditional boundaries.
The collaboration goes beyond simple licensing. It involves deep coordination on story creation, production planning, merchandising, and worldwide rollout, signalling a long-term vision for anime’s global growth.
This move is expected to strengthen Netflix’s position in the competitive anime market. At the same time, it could help MAPPA’s original projects reach wider and more diverse audiences worldwide.
