Netflix’s One Piece Live Adaptation Trailer Doesn’t Suck

If you have any sort of idea or a friend who is crazy about anime, he or she would have recommended One Piece to you. When it comes to live adaptations, it’s often a hit-or-miss situation, and in most cases, it has been the latter. However, with One Piece, it would be a sin not to capitalize on its popularity, and there is definitely no room for errors, as this is considered one of the best on-screen fiction ever.

The trailer, overall, gives hope to the fans. It starts with Gol. D. Roger and his invitation for a free world and free will. However, his portrayal is very different from the original source. In the trailer, he looks like a Jack Sparrow rip-off with an evil smile, which is quite distinct from the adventurous, hopeful, and enlightened version that anime fans love and appreciate.

Nonetheless, in the trailer, we saw some familiar faces, and Netflix did a phenomenal job with casting. Luffy is perfectly cast, leaving a similar impression to the anime. Emily Rudd as Nami could not be a better choice.

There were also scenes featuring Buggy the Clown, and while it may be a controversial statement, he looks better than in the anime. The CGI and graphics team did a fantastic job. Zoro’s character also retains his mysterious nature in the trailer, and his fighting scenes leave a good impression.

As for Sanji and Usopp, time will tell if the casting was done well enough to win over the hearts of the fans. Additionally, there was a brief glimpse of the Going Merry, and the makers played with its look, which isn’t getting the best reviews.

The season will hopefully revolve around the Arlong arc of the anime, one of the strongest arcs in the history of Anime. Though diverging from the original source can be a good thing once in a while, certain iconic characters should remain untouched.

One iconic scene in the trailer shows Luffy putting the hat on Nami and saying, “You are my friend.” This moment gives goosebumps to every fan of the franchise, and including it will bring a lot of nostalgia. And if the legend himself Eichiro Oda himself has said that the scene is perfect, then it has to be perfect.

Overall, fans are showing a positive approach to the upcoming series. With a good storyline and great casting, this show carries immense potential. While it may lack the slow-burn essence of the original show, some compromises are expected in a live-action adaptation.

Additionally, fans are asking for a cherry on top experience with the inclusion of the title song from the original anime. The makers haven’t revealed any updates regarding this, but if things turn out well, we won’t have a hodgepodge like the adaptations of AoT or Pokemon. In the endless cosmos of possibilities, Netflix drops something that might define any future adaptations.
