OTT Needs Sensibility, Not Restrictions: Hansal Mehta

From authorities to stars, most are calling for the censorship of OTT platforms. But there are some names that are all for the freedom of OTT and Hansal Mehta is one of the torch-bearers.

The creators use OTT platforms to experiment with multiple forms of content and fans simply love it. Now, it is true that some of the content on the platform is over the top, sometimes it crosses the limit of sanity. So sometimes it calls for censorship.

Hansal, he is a supporter of uncensored products. As a creator, he believes in the method of “being responsible.”

“My show Scam 1992 was watched by the entire family. I wanted to take the content to a wider audience without any malicious intent.,” he says, adding, “I think it’s more about the intent and censor board, too, looks at your intent ultimately,” Mehta told the media.

Now, if you take the freedom away from OTT platforms, it will take the main essence out of it. OTT has always been a platform to show creativity, it is like a blank canvas. So if you take the freedom away, it will lose its identity.

OTT has been a platform where shows came out to show the true nature of society, some deal with socio-political issues, and some focus on Dystopia. If censorship happens, it comes with the concept of misuse and might end the reign of OTT.
