What to Watch on OTT

Panchayat & Gullak Just Proved Who’s Real OTT Star

For the longest time the Hindi OTT scenario is dominated by metro based stories which deal with gen z problems, heart breaks and office struggles, the OTT platforms are flooded with such narratives.

But it seems like the tables are turning and the audiences are increasingly turning into stories which are not based in metro cities but more rural backdrops.

The success of “Panchayat”, “Gullak”, shows that simplicity, authenticity, and cultural relatability connects with the audience much more than metro city problems.

While the major part of the audience comes from metro cities the stories surrounding metro cities feel repetitive.

These rural stories offer emotional depth, natural characters, and a nuanced blend of humor and struggle.

More importantly, they reflect the lives of millions who see themselves not in skyscrapers, but in small towns.

OTT platforms must now rethink their content strategies.

Rural stories, when told with nuance and respect, are not just compelling , they are essential.
