Prime video subscribers are in for a nostalgic trip, but there is a twist.
Prime Video India is adding a fresh batch of cinematic gems to its rental catalog, that means after paying for the subscriptions and to add on that the ads free payment, only after that if they want to watch the movies they have to pay more money because they are on rent.
This mix of classical cult movies has everything for someone who loves movies.
On top of the list we have “The Servant” a British psychological drama which explores the shifting power dynamics, released in 1964.
Next in line is “Army of Shadows” , Jean-Pierre Melville’s French Resistance drama, which is celebrated for its realism and emotional depth; the movie was released in 1969.
How come David Lynch will not be on the list, “The Elephant Man” a masterfully made black and white biopic of John Merrick released in 1980, for the loves of Mr. Lynch.
There are also surrealistic movies, for viewers who like surrealism, “Delicatessen” released in 1992 and “The City of Lost Children” released in 1995, both from French duo Jeunet and Caro.
These films explore dystopian worlds which till this date feels like they were ahead of their time.
To change the palate with something fluffy there is “Wimbledon” released in 2004, a beautiful blend of romance and comedy.
And in the end, to kick it off with action we have “Passenger 57” released in 2013, starring Wesley Snipes.
With this lineup, Prime Video India is catering to those who crave stories beyond the mainstream. But adding this on the rental catalog is the main drawback which is gathering frustration from the subscribers.
It seems like Prime Video is offering a good movie but as well as squeezing enough money out of the audience’s pocket.
