Vishwanath and Sons OTT Verdict: Shocking Reality Check?

Suriya’s Vishwanath and Sons directed by Venky Atluri was released in theatres on August 14th and has received mixed responses from critics.

Despite the mixed reviews from critics, since the humor portions and the emotions in the film connected well with the general audience, Vishwanath and Sons performed well at the box office and emerged as a commercial success.

Following its successful theatrical run, Vishwanath and Sons started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform yesterday in five languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. People who missed watching it in theatres are now watching it on OTT and sharing their responses on social media.

Since feel-good films usually perform well on OTT, many people believed that Vishwanath and Sons might work for the OTT audience and emerge as a successful venture on the platform.

However, surprisingly, Vishwanath and Sons is receiving mixed responses from the OTT audience as well. While some viewers suggest that Vishwanath and Sons is a perfect family entertainer film released in Kollywood in recent times and claim that both Suriya and Mamitha Baiju have delivered their best acting performances, some people feel the opposite.

They claim that Vishwanath and Sons feels artificial in many places and note that the director, Venky Atluri, wanted the film to connect emotionally well, but the emotions in most of the sequences in the film felt forced and not blended naturally.

Also, they suggest that even though the film has some positives like Mamitha Baiju’s finest acting performance and some humor portions that landed really well, because of the draggy second half and forced emotions, Vishwanath and Sons ended up as an below average film.

Meanwhile, in the Vishwanath and Sons OTT version in a particular scene in the second half, due to a Dolby Vision content issue, the entire 20-second sequence was visually very poor. Consequently, netizens are thrashing the makers of Vishwanath and Sons, claiming that this mistake was because of their lethargy and asking them to quickly resolve it.

Ultimately, with the mixed reviews from the OTT audience, it remains to be seen how Vishwanath and Sons is going to perform on the platform and whether it emerges as a successful venture on OTT as well in the coming days.
