Neeraj Pandey is set to return with a new series that revolves around the world of smugglers. Titled Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web, the project has already sparked discussion after its teaser release on Netflix.
The series features Emraan Hashmi, Sharad Kelkar, and other known faces. From the teaser, Emraan Hashmi appears to be playing a customs officer, placing him at the centre of the narrative.
The setting is clearly established through visuals of drug syndicates, customs surveillance, intense confrontations, and action driven moments. The teaser suggests a familiar crime thriller tone that Neeraj Pandey has explored before.
Earlier, Special Ops received strong appreciation in its initial season. However, later instalments failed to meet the same expectations. A similar pattern followed with Khakee Bihar Chapter earning praise, while the Bengal Chapter drew mixed responses.
This has raised questions about whether Neeraj Pandey can recreate his earlier success with this series. With several crime dramas already to his credit, some feel a fresh creative direction is overdue.
For now, the focus remains on whether the cast and the storyline, if gripping enough, can connect with viewers. The final verdict will depend on how well the series balances familiarity with freshness.
