Aditya Dhar Shelves Ashwatthama: Shocking New Project?

Filmmaker Aditya Dhar is reportedly changing his creative direction. He is said to be planning a new mythological action film with Ranveer Singh, while putting his long-awaited project The Immortal Ashwatthama on hold, which earlier starred Vicky Kaushal.

The Immortal Ashwatthama had generated strong interest after the success of Uri: The Surgical Strike. However, persistent budget issues and large production scale challenges reportedly prevented the project from moving forward despite early momentum.

Aditya Dhar has also renewed his first-look agreement with Jio Studios for another two years. The deal continues under his production banner, B62 Studios, strengthening his long-term collaboration with the studio.

This partnership has already delivered multiple projects such as Article 370, Baramulla, Dhoom Dhaam, and the two-part action franchise Dhurandhar. These films have helped establish Dhar’s commercial storytelling style.

Industry reports suggest the renewed agreement reflects Jio Studios’ confidence in Aditya Dhar’s vision. His ability to balance scale with audience appeal is believed to be a key reason behind the continued association.

Currently, the filmmaker is focused on Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is scheduled for release in March 2026. The project remains a major priority for Dhar at this stage.

The original Dhurandhar performed strongly after its digital release. It reportedly achieved major viewership milestones and crossed significant box-office benchmarks in India, despite facing regional bans.

While talks of a new mythological film with Ranveer Singh are still in early stages, the development points to Dhar’s interest in large-scale action narratives. However, careful planning will be crucial.

Given the financial hurdles that stalled The Immortal Ashwatthama, the success of any future mythological project may depend more on production strategy and market conditions than star power alone.
