Border 2 is just days away from its theatrical release. Roopbani Cinema CEO Vishek Chauhan has now shared his views on whether the film can outperform Gadar 2 at the box office.
Vishek compared the release phase of the original films. He said the first Border released when Sunny Deol was at his peak. However, the scenario was different for Gadar, which still became a success despite clashing with Lagaan.
He recalled that Gadar had lower footfalls than Border. Vishek dismissed the idea that Gadar 2 is far ahead of the Border sequel, stating that Gadar 2 did not justify its franchise value in terms of scale and investment.
Vishek added that the theme of Gadar connects strongly with single-screen audiences. He pointed out that Bhushan Kumar has invested heavily in Border 2 because he understands Sunny Deol’s pull in franchise films.
According to Vishek, Border 2 will attract audiences from both small towns and big cities. He explained that multiplexes play a major role in today’s box office numbers, while many remote areas still lack such screens, which could work in the film’s favour.
Despite criticism around VFX and casting, the glimpses of Border 2 have generated strong buzz. The makers have also adopted effective marketing strategies, including recreating a popular song from the original film.
Vishek noted that the directorial styles of J.P. Dutta and Anurag Singh are very different. He believes Anurag Singh will include mass moments that appeal to single-screen audiences.
However, the key question remains whether the sequel can match the impact of the original. A clearer picture will emerge once advance bookings begin and opening-day reactions come in.
Ultimately, the film’s fate will depend on first-day numbers and public response. For now, all eyes remain on Border 2’s release.
