Aditya Dhar has delivered one of the biggest releases ever for Jio Studios with Dhurandhar. The action film has emerged as the biggest hit of 2025 so far. Despite mixed reactions on social media, the box office response has been overwhelming.
At the ticket counters, Dhurandhar has swept past competition. The film has also given Ranveer Singh the biggest grossing film of his career. Its performance has provided major relief for Jio Studios.
Jio Studios entered 2025 with several highly anticipated films. Unfortunately, most of them failed to meet expectations. The year began with Sky Force starring Akshay Kumar, which ended up as a moderate hit.
This was followed by a string of underperformers. Films like Kajol’s Maa and Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2 failed to make an impact. Both titles turned out to be washouts at the box office.
The biggest shock came with Baby John. The Atlee directorial starring Varun Dhawan was expected to be a major success. Instead, it ended as Jio Studios’ biggest disaster of the year.
Baby John wrapped up at around 40 crores. Its critical reception was also below average. The film failed to recover its costs or generate strong word of mouth.
In contrast, Dhurandhar has emerged as a heavyweight performer. With a first week collection of 239 crore rupees, the film has changed Jio Studios’ fortunes dramatically.
Many observers believe the current trend favours action films. Big-built, bearded heroes continue to draw crowds. This formula was popularised earlier by Vanga in Animal.
However, Aditya Dhar added a patriotic layer to the template. This approach appears to have struck a chord with audiences. As a result, Dhurandhar stands tall amid a year of setbacks for Jio Studios.
