Drishyam 3 Public Talk: Better Than Mohanlal’s Original?

Drishyam 3 has arrived amid enormous anticipation, and early reactions suggest that the latest chapter in Ajay Devgn’s popular thriller franchise has managed to keep audiences invested. While Jaideep Ahlawat is emerging as one of the biggest talking points, the film has also reignited conversations around Akshaye Khanna’s decision to walk away from the project.

One viewer summed up Ahlawat’s impact with the remark, “Bina loud hue dhadkan badha raha hai sabki,” suggesting that the actor creates tension without resorting to loud performances. Another social media reaction was even more pointed about Khanna’s absence: “Akshaye Khanna might have done several mistakes in his career. But leaving #Drishyam3 for whatever reasons, is perhaps the BIGGEST MISTAKE. What a role it was! Jaideep Ahlawat nailed it though.”

The sentiment reflects the curiosity surrounding what Akshaye’s version of the role might have looked like, even as Jaideep earns appreciation for his performance. His casting has clearly become a major talking point.

Not all reactions, however, suggest that Drishyam 3 matches the impact of its predecessor. One viewer called it a fitting conclusion to the franchise and praised the makers for understanding how to bring the story to a close. The film’s biggest achievement is that it remains entertaining and engaging throughout, supported by strong technical work, impactful dialogues and an impressive background score.

However, the same review pointed out that the pre-finale feels too convenient and that the film lacks the shock value of Drishyam 2. While the narrative is straightforward and controlled, its twists and turns are not particularly surprising. The anticipated confrontations between Ajay Devgn and Jaideep Ahlawat also feel underutilised, with Prakash Raj’s entry shifting the focus. The viewer further noted that Drishyam 2 benefited from stronger writing, with its events feeling less convenient and its thrills more unpredictable.

Critics have also responded favourably overall, with many praising its writing, courtroom sequences, climax and the face-off between Ajay Devgn and Jaideep Ahlawat. Another described it as an engaging watch despite its familiar formula. They also called it a satisfying conclusion to the franchise.

For now, Drishyam 3 appears to have delivered enough suspense and conversation to keep audiences talking.
